We are on a mission to enable and empower the many under-privileged who continue to struggle in Tanzania, with a specific emphasis on health, education, and community development.
The idea for the Mo Dewji Foundation was conceived in 2000, when the CEO of MeTL Group, Mohammed Dewji, driven by passion and ambitions for the society, made great efforts to develop and expand the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility and its role in creating positive change. The Mo Dewji Foundation now conducts all CSR operations of MeTL Group.
The Mo Dewji
Foundation focuses on improving life conditions in Tanzania in several areas:
- Promoting education in order to create a pathway for the population, especially the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, to lead to a more productive, equitable and just society.
- Strengthening healthcare systems and creating purified drinking water to assist in disease prevention.
- Supporting community development efforts in order to help build self-sustaining and successful communities throughout Tanzania.
Mo Dewji Foundation currently operates several programs and aims to involve itself in new and innovative projects to provide services and support for less fortunate members of the community. We work by giving grants as well as implementing our own projects, and we establish partnerships with both charitable organizations and businesses. All of our administrative costs are covered by the generosity of MeTL Group, meaning that 100% of our spending goes directly towards improving the lives of Tanzanians.
Mohammed has always firmly believed that it is the responsibility of businesses and corporations to give back to their communities and support the economic and social development of Tanzania. His contributions have transformed the lives of the poor in the country by financing social projects such related to education, health, and community development. Mohammed won the 2015 AABLA Philanthropist of the Year Award for the East African region and he is globally recognized as a promoter of development.
As both Member of Parliament for Singida Urban District and CEO of MeTL Group, Mohammed Dewji has put great efforts into creating sustainable socioeconomic development within his constituency. In 2006, he founded the NGO Singida Yetu, with the vision of uniting Singida’s citizens, local government, civil society and the private sector in a collaborative partnership striving to improve the lives of people in the region. In the decade following its inception, Singida Yetu spent more than one billion Tshs on community service projects, including the provision of safe and clean water, improvement of sanitation schemes, donation of mosquito nets and the funding of healthcare treatment and cataract operations. After the successes in Singida and the realization of the needs throughout the rest of Tanzania, the next logical step was to provide the same services nationally, and thus The Mo Dewji Foundation was created. Launched officially in 2014, the foundation is involved in education, health, and community development-related projects across Tanzania. Over the last five years, Singida Yetu and the Mo Dewji Foundation have spent more than $3 million on projects that have directly improved the lives of Tanzanians.
