MO ENTREPRENEURS COMPETITION: more ideas, more innovation, more business.
According to the African Development Bank, Africa middle class population will grow to 1.1 Bil by 2060: middle class drives domestic consumption and entrepreneurialism. However, a major block for young Entrepreneurs in Tanzania is the costs and requirement needed to access start-up/growth capital. Unlocking entrepreneurial support opportunities to youth is critical for boosting Tanzania economy and development. In fact, Tanzania ranks on 19th in Africa in Entrepreneurship and Opportunity according to the 2014 Africa Prosperity Report.
Mo Entrepreneurs Competition is a collaborative effort between Mo Dewji Foundation and Darecha Limited to recognize and support the efforts of young entrepreneurs in Tanzania. The competition launches a platform that will enable Mohammed Dewji (The CEO of MeTL Group and Chairman of Mo Dewji Foundation) to support young entrepreneurs who are running highly potential start-ups but lack further support in form of growth capital, networks and mentorship which could accelerate the growth of their business.
The competition seeks young entrepreneurs (18-30 years old) who have the passion, drive, and determination to grow their start-ups, in order to increase their income and their contribution to Tanzania economy. A minimum of three winners, to be announced in April, will be provided with a business investment as a start-up/growth capital. They will also receive mentorship and networking support from the CEO of MeTL Group and Chairman of Mo Dewji Foundation, Mohammed Dewji
In accepting the 2015 Forbes “Person of the Year” Award, Mohammed Dewji (founder and chairman of the Mo Dewji Foundation) dedicated the award to the Youth of Tanzania, wishing them to “shine bright, conquer your fear, embrace challenges and aspire to make our world a better place to live in.”
