Water Program

The Mo Dewji Foundation is supporting the WASH initiatives of the Ministry of Water. We are committed to working with local partners in all regions of Tanzania to ensure clean and safe drinking water is accessible to every Tanzanian.

Founder Mohammed Dewji, a resident of Singida, built the first water well in 2001. Today, MDF has built over 43 water wells in Singida Municipality, providing access to clean and safe drinking water to more than 10,000 individuals and 2,000 families.

Program Activities

Well Construction & Management
To improve clean water access, the Mo Dewji Foundation has been building wells in Singida since 2001. As a flagship charitable activity of the Foundation, the wells have required regular monitoring and maintenance over time. We continue to build capacity and make plans for more wells nationwide.
Community Education
Good well management requires people to regularly check the well and ensure it is being operated with best practice. Given that many wells were constructed in areas that never had wells before, the Foundation has become a trainer for proper well use and maintenance to ensure sustainability.
Policy Engagement
Mo Dewji is a former Member of Parliament representing the Singida region of Tanzania. Given his personal experience and the company MeTL’s collective history in policy analysis and development, the Foundation works closely with water authorities to promote the well construction and management project.
